Being Prepared for a Chronic Illiness

September 13th, 2008

Living with a chronic illness brings about a lot of obstacles. Most of us don’t plan on getting sick, it just happens. By the time we get sick it’s too late to buy disability insurance. If you don’t have Disability Income Insurance you can lose everything you spent years working for. Disability Income Insurance replaces your income when you’re unable to work because of a disability. You have a choice of how long the disability insurance policy will pay. Some will pay a few years and others will pay until you reach regular retirement age. A lot of employers have Disability Income Insurance you can buy for a few bucks. A friend of mine got hurt at home and needed to use his Disability Income Insurance. It was a life saver as his family was already struggling to make ends meet. His particular insurance plan will pay him until he retires. There are many different Disability Insurance companies. You have to be careful to check your plans bylaws. The policy rules are different depending on where you live and what kind of plan you request. You may still be eligible for disability Insurance even if you already have a chronic illness. The only way you really know is to apply for the Disability Insurance Plans .

Very good information that, as you said, most of us don’t think about until we are ill.
