Preparing for Another Growing Season

May 31st, 2009

I haven’t started my garden because our weather did not cooperate. Finally, it’s warm enough for me to start planning my garden. I don’t grow a typical garden because I can not dig in the ground; it takes too much out of me. I grow tomatoes and green peppers in big pots on my wheelchair ramp. Putting them on the ramp allows to me access my pots in my wheelchair. The hose is on our porch to make it easier for me to water my garden. I love watching all the plants grow each day. I grow my entire garden organically because it’s healthier for my family. My daughter helps me with the organic pest control. We grow tomatoes and green peppers every year. Last year, we tried to grow brussel sprouts, but I planted them in small pots. I usually save some of the green peppers and tomatoes for the winter months. Growing a garden saves me money on groceries because a green peppers are two to three dollars each. I love to put green peppers in stir fry’s and garden salads. I even love to eat them uncooked with salad dressing. Gardening can be very therapeutic for someone dealing with a chronic illness because it gives you a sense of accomplishment. These things are especially helpful when you live in constant pain everyday. It’s nice seeing the wonderful things in nature everyday during the warm months. I don’t like the winter much because the pain is worse. We are going to pick up the vegetables to grow next week.

You know, we just planted a garden in the backyard ourselves. It’s quit nice really. Very relaxing to go out back and watch some vegies grow.

Just stumbled and submitted your site to Viralogy. Hope you get some great traffic from it.

This year is actually my first year at trying to grow vegetables. We started the seeds indoors and put them out in the yard this past weekend. We giving it a try and if it doesn’t work out I’ll have to try it in big pots as you mentioned. We planted bell peppers, cayenne, jalapeno, and tomatoes.

    Naye,
Thanks for the visit. This willbe my 3rd year actually. It’s always a learning experience when gardens are concerned. I’m not one for real hot things like you. Just make sure you don’t rub your eyes after working in your garden.

    Maya,
Your very welcome. Parenting is hard enough without adding lupus into the mix.

    Heather,
Thanks the darn lupus can be good for that, but I didn’t know the sun is what causes the bald spots. I flip my hair over mine the best I can. I have issues with the sun too and on top of it today it was so hot.
