Kids, Doctors and School Oh My

October 1st, 2009

We started school about three weeks ago and it’s been smoother then last year. I bought some software where my daughter can do her school work on the computer and it grades things automatically. It makes a big difference when you’re sick because I was beginning to think I might have to send her back to public school and that didn’t sit well with me. She hated public school because of all the tormenting of the other kids so I really felt torn. I had to pay a little extra for the software, but I needed something to make both of our lives better. It helps avoid the fighting with my daughter. I went to my rheumatologist last week and it seemed like a good appointment. He did a lot of blood work which made me feel like a human pin cushion. I hope my vitamin D levels come back okay. I’ve come to realize the levels won’t ever be normal. He did change the times I take a couple of my pills around to help with the morning stiffness and the pain level, but I’ve yet to see any difference. I need to make a phone call to the neurologist and I sent my medical release back in July. She was supposed to call me, but I’ve yet to hear from her. I’m not sure if I like her or not because she was too professional. Another words, I felt like she was stone cold, but sometimes the first visit doesn’t tell it all.

Seeking Help For The Past

September 10th, 2009

Getting help for a mental illness is overwhelming for most people. Most people avoid their problems rather then deal with them. A lot of people suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and don’t get treatment. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is caused by something traumatic happening in someone’s life. Some of the things are childhood abuse, war, sexual assault, disasters, physical abuse, mental abuse, and domestic violence, just to name a few things. Once someone decides to see a therapist it can be hard to find a good therapist.  In the past I thought PTSD was treated only one way.  Sometimes the first therapist or therapy will not work, so you may need find someone else or try a new therapy. I did not know that Somatic Therapy was a way to treat trauma until recently. Now, Working with a San Diego Therapist will show you just how traumatic issues affect your body today. Somatic Therapy is a kind of therapy that works with the mind and body, rather then just talk therapy. Most people do not realize that our bodies can retain the trauma form years ago. If you don’t get some help for the trauma it can affect you for years. A Somatic therapist is San Diego can help you recognize when your body is stressing.  Once you’re able to recognize your body’s reaction to a situation you’ll know how to react to the situation.

Plastic Surgery or Not?

August 22nd, 2009

So you’ve decided to have plastic surgery? It’s not a decision you should not make until you’ve weighted all of your options. Plastic surgery may not be your own option, so you researching other options is important. For instance if your wanting a tummy tuck, are you doing it for yourself or for a partner? Doing a tummy tuck to please someone else will likely hurt your own self image. If you want the surgery you need to do a lot of research to weight the pros and cons. Write down your list so you can see it.  Writing down things helps the decision making process. After writing your list, put it aside for a few days and go back to it. This is a good way to find out just how important the surgery is to you. Next, you need to see if you can afford the surgery including the time off work. It’s better to over estimate the costs for the surgery then to understand estimate the costs. Once you’ve decided to have the surgery you need to find a licensed plastic surgeon. I would ask friends and family if they would recommend a certain surgeon. If you’re not comfortable asking friends and family you could do an internet search of local plastic surgeons. If you find a surgeon out of your state by all means visited that doctor as well. After all it’s your life you’re putting in someone else’s hands. Once you’ve found the ideal surgeon talk to him about the pros and cons of the surgery. Look at some of his before and after pictures. If he doesn’t have any I would run far away from the surgeon. I’ve always liked the saying “Pictures say a 1000 words”.  Once you decide to have the surgery make arrangements to have a friend or family member with your throughout the process. When you first come home it’s going to be hard to get around your home. Just remember to make an informed decision by doing your homework.

Adding The Spark in Your Marriage

April 23rd, 2009

A lot of people are finding that they can not afford the expensive medications for their health problems. People who used only brand name medications are finding themselves buying generic medications. For a lot of people the alternative medication works better to improve the couple’s sex life, rather then expensive name brand medications. Impotence can cause a lot of martial disarray so men are looking for alternatives to the name brand medication Viagra. Now you can purchase an alternative impotence medication online from Viagra UK and having it mailed securely to your home without the embarrassment of going to the pharmacy counter. You don’t need a prescription from the doctor for the alternative impotence medication. Many couples have been able to rebuild the romance in their love life after years of no sex life. Being able to buy the alternative impotence medication to Viagra means an improvement in your sex life. Being In Charge of My Medical Care

March 12th, 2009

I keep a copy of my medical records for myself so I can take them to new doctors. This helps doctors to provide better medical care for me. It is important for all doctors to know about my medical conditions and medications. I keep a list of my medications in my purse in case I have one of my episodes when I can not speak or say words that make no sense. The first time I looked at my medical records it was like reading a foreign language. So I bought a Medical Dictionary so that I can better understand my medical records. Even though I have worked in the medical field I still find it hard to understand many of the words because so many of them are so alike. I can not imagine trying to understand my medical records without having a medical background. I have found some websites like Dr Foster Health to help me understand my medical records. If a Hospital Guides were available in my area it would help me find a hospital with a lower rate of MRSA. This is important because MRSA can be fatal and it’s an infection that’s hard to treat. Being a Knowledgeable patient is just as important as being a well educated Doctor. Knowing a little bit about the medical field goes a long way in understanding your treatment.

The Good One's Always Leave

September 19th, 2008

I am so glad the weekend is hear and I’m done with doctors appt. Its such a long drive to the rhemotologist, but I always pay for the darn appt. I feel sore today. All I want to do is lay day, but that’s not an option. Lupus really does suck a rotten egg, excuse the statement, but that’s really how I feel. Now, I’m stuck wondering what my blood work will come back and next week I have to go to my primary doctor. I hate going to the doctor, but thankful that I can go to the doctor. I’m now left in limbo to find a new neurologist because he’s no longer there. Just when I find a decent specialist they are gone. He was good by me. A good listener and a good reactor. If I had a complaint he reacted not ignoring me. I am thankful for having a great doctor while it lasted. I just hope I can find another good one

Rant About Darn Pharmacy and Doctor's Hours

August 28th, 2008

Well I’m on another rant today. I get up feel half way good then boom afternoon comes and I totally feel really yucky. It don’t help that I ran out of one of my medications because I thought it had a refill because the bottle had a refill and then the insurance company made the pharmacy call my rheumatologist. When n they are only around one time a week it makes it difficult to get medications refilled. SO my advice to you all just cause you got one refill don’t always mean you really want it cause the pharmacies/insurance companies can’t count. Its frustrating because I feel like I’m starting from scratch with my medication for nerve damage. It’s the one medication that keeps me from going out of my mind with the pain. Yes, I’m ranting, but if I don’t It wouldn’t be my page.

A Crazy Lupie Day with my ADHD Daughter

August 16th, 2008

Tonight I am quit sore still dealing with the after maths of surgery on top of the lupus side effects. My daughter is driving me crazy with her ADHD. She has been very hyper all day. I feel like my head is spinning dealing with her. Her ADHD symptoms get worse in the evening. I’ve wondered if anyone else is going through the same thing or is it just me. I go back to the doctors on Friday to have my check up with the doctor to find out the results of the biopsy. I am keeping my fingers crossed because he found more then he expected. I am glad that I pushed to have it removed. Well I guess that’s all I have for tonight. Everyone have a wonderful weekend.

Rheumatologist Appointment

March 20th, 2008

Yesterday, I went to my 4 month check to the rheumatologist. It’s always a long ride there and back. We left in the morning and didn’t get home until 5 pm. It made for a really long day. I’ve had this upper respiratory stuff and he had to give me an antibiotic. He checked me for pneumonia and it came back clear. That was a major relief. I still have other tests out, but this is a major relief.

I have to go a rheumatologist so far away because I’ve dealt with a lot of my symptoms are in my head. Many doctors don’t want to diagnosis you with lupus. I totally understand that, but refusing to treat symptoms is unrealistic. I suffered in pain with little relief for 4 years because of ignoring my symptoms. I can say I’m thankful for the doctors I have today. All of them listen to me and react when they need to. I feel more like a patient, then a number in their checkbook.

Good doctors and nurses are hard to find. If you have good doctors hang on to them because they are hard to find.

Dealing With The Nerve Damage with Lupus

March 7th, 2008

My nerves in my feet seem to be back on the rampage tonight. I’ve got nerve damage in both of them. I went through 4 years of agonizing pain before the doctor put a name with the pain. I spent these four years telling my doctors about my symptoms. Most of them tried to down play the pain. It was so discouraging.

When the doctor that listened ran tests it explained a lot. I have severe nerve damage in both of my legs along with myopathy, which is muscle damage. It was a long road to finding out what was wrong with my legs. It was a relief in many ways. I was relieved that the pain was not in my head, as I’ve been told many times. I will be forever thankful to the doctor who referred me and the doctor who diagnosed me. I have peripheral neuropathy in both legs. My arms are affected by the nerve and muscle damage as well.
