Medical Advances Gave Me Validation

October 2nd, 2009

After living with chronic pain in my legs with no answer for four years a new neurologist ran an EMG and EEG to rule out things. It was a relief that a neurologist finally listened to my complaints and reacted. It does no go to complain about something, then the doctor does nothing, but bob his head. If I want that kind of reaction I would talk to a bobble head doll. An EMG is a test where the doctor puts small needles in your body and shoots electrical current into the nerve. For me it was an extremely painful test, but it answered so many of my questions. I finally had validation that my pain was real and this made me feel so good. I wouldn’t take the test again, but I’m thankful for the results. I was diagnosed with myopathy and neuropathy in both of my extremities. It explained all the weaknesses in both of my extremities. If another doctor would have taken my complaints serious and ran tests it would have made me feel so much better a long time ago. I wouldn’t have continued with feeling like so much of my illness was in my head. I’m thankful for all the advances in medical technology to help people like me get answers. One of the greatest medical advances is the gamma camera because it’s able to show things other technology didn’t show. It makes me think what they will invent next.
