America’s Giving Challenge has challenged organizations to raise the most donations between October to November through Facebook, but you don’t need a Facebook account. The prize for the organization that raises the most money is 50,000 dollars and daily cash donations. 50,000 dollars can change a lot of people’s life if the scientists are given the money to test new treatments for lupus. There hasn’t be a treatment for lupus in over 50 years, right now a clinical trial is going on that’s showing promising results, but research cost money. Please help the Lupus Foundation of America Find a cure for LUPUS because life with lupus sucks.

Do They Ever Stop Growing?

My daughter’s sixteenth birthday is in a few months. It’s hard to believe she’s so close to being an adult. In all honesty, I’m not looking forward to her eighteenth birthday. It’s not that I’m not proud of her; it’s just hard seeing my baby growing up. She’s grown into a respectful, honest, kind and sweet young lady. It’s hard planning for her sixteenth birthday on a tight budget. I need to check around for prices on party favors. I wish I could rewind the time to her being a little girl again. It amazes me how fast time flies in life, where’s a time traveler when you need one.

She’s crazy about polka dots, dogs, and Avril Lavigne. I’m trying to combine all of them together to create the perfect party themes for her sweet sixteen. I need to buy party favors, food, and birthday gifts for her. I’m not sure what I’m going to buy her this year, but it has to be special. She might like these Hollywood party favors I found online. I found a company that offers some creative party ideas for just about any party.  The party favors I found are Hollywood squares just like the ones in California for the stars. I think it’ll be a perfect party for a sweet sixteen, but I’ll have to save money to afford her birthday surprise.

For her birthday I’d like to set up tables with party food. I’m not sure if I’m going to bake her cake or have someone else bake her cake. I’d like to decorate her cake with pink and blue polka dots with small dogs in each dot. I’m sure it’ll be an interesting cake for any cake decorator. Chances are they won’t decorate a cake like this again. Just like the cake my daughter is original too. For decorations I’d like to buy some pink and blue streamers and make a poster with happy sixteenth birthday.

Its Getting Hot In Here

Are you tired of the heat of summer in your car? My first car did not have an air conditioning and when you live in a state that’s hot all the time, you want air conditioning you can almost taste it. Yeah, I know it sounds crazy, but those of you who’ve been stuck at a traffic light without air conditioning you know what I mean. I needed a new Toyota AC Compressor because my compressor wasn’t working at all. Trying to find an affordable compressor wasn’t easy, so I looked on the internet for a new one. After a lot of surfing I found a company that sells auto parts online and ships by UPS. I just had to find a good mechanic that will use my parts to repair my car.

Have You Set Your Clock Today?

Buying a new clock is an exciting thing to do if you’re a wall clock collector like me. We’ve had a clock that displays the time, date, day of the week, and temperature for years, it’s been an accurate clock, but it’s not keeping good time anymore. The clock has been 10 minutes fast for a few months, which can be helpful if you’re running late, but annoying when you’re watching a show on television. I found a new wall clock called Seth Thomas Weather Station and it’s very similar to mine. This clock looks like a better quality one than the one I have hanging on my wall. The one I have on my wall has the temperature, date, day of the week, and time, but the new one has an alarm and the outside temperature too. The wall clock I like is dark and light grey with a square box in the middle that displays the time at the top in larger print and the other information on the bottom from left to right. A clock like this is great for my family because we check the temperature all the time to decide what to wear outside.  Presently, we have the clock on our kitchen wall above the water cooler.

Ready for Halloween?

Are you ready to celebrate Halloween? I know it’s hard to believe 2009 is almost over and it’ll be 2010. I don’t even want to think about December because of Christmas. For Halloween I like to let my inner child come out and play. It’s the only day she can come out and no one will say I’m weird. It’s fun to dress up in different wigs and imagine being someone else. I like to create my own costume with a dress, wig and hat. I was a witch for five years when I was an adolescent. For some reason I loved being a witch and my mom was pretty at creating the ultimate witch, warts and all. I used to wear a black wig with green highlights. We used a can of spray hair color. We always found something new to add to the costume. One year we added a wart to the end of my nose that we found at costumes for plus size

My brother wanted a new costume every year. He dressed up as the karate kid and he really got into it. After Halloween, my mom had to take him down a notch because he was trying to karate chop everyone and everything. He was very hyperactive and still is as an adult. He hates staying in one place for very long. Another year, he decided to be a witch just like me and I was not happy about it at all. My mom told me he was a vampire with a hat to get me to shut up. It wasn’t until years later I realized he was a witch just like me. Now as an adult I think it’s pretty cool that one of my brothers looked up to me.

Making a Negative into a Postive in Life

There wasn’t a dull moment when I worked as a nursing assistant in a nursing home. I dealt with patients with a variety of illnesses. Some of the patients made a bigger impression on me then others. One patient I took care of was a quadriplegic, which means she was paralyzed from the neck down, but she did have some movement in her arms. I think she made such a large impression because she never gave up on  life. She was paralyzed in an accident where she fell down from a faulty step ladder.  Even on the hardest days she still got up out of bed to create breath taking abstract art. I was impressed how she painted with a paint brush in her mouth. I really admired her determination to make a negative thing in her life into a positive.
